About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

Carry out Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning and Start-Up Execution activities related to mechanical rotating equipment and as required for piping / static equipment for multiple concurrent small to medium scale projects or ring fenced medium to large scale projects, to ensure proper transition from construction, through pre-commissioning, start up, initial operation and into steady-state operation. 
This is an interior-based role performed on a rotational roster with a back-to-back counterpart.
 

Education & Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree level qualification in Mechanical – Rotating engineering discipline is required.
•    A minimum of 4 years oil and gas industry experience including front-line supervisory roles for maintenance and/or commissioning. 
•    Experience maintenance, overhaul, installation, and field commissioning activities for rotating equipment. Experience in ‘sour’ operations is desired. 
•    Previous experience in small, medium, and large projects, on live installation is essential, 
•    Performed in commissioning or maintenance role, participating, and executing activities in projects for Construction, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning and Start-Up phases.
•    Experience in start-up, normal operation, and maintenance of rotating equipment, i.e., centrifugal pumps including multi-stage high pressure pumps, reciprocating, diaphragm, etc. compressors centrifugal, screw, reciprocating compressors, blowers, fans, steam, and gas turbines, etc. 
•    Experience in machine conditioning and monitoring software, analysing and determine potential machine reliability issues and troubleshooting the operations.
•    Knowledge of relevant industrial codes (ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, EN, API, BS, NFPA etc.). Familiar with Shell DEPs and Company Technical Standards.
•    Experience in reading and understand technical standards, drawings and able to review and interpret to determine compliance with the requirements or meeting the acceptance criteria.
•    Experience in technical and HSE hazards and risks identification, assessment, and mitigation.
•    Application of a Computerised Completions Management System. 
•    Experienced in structured technical review or audit.
•    Effective communicator, written and verbal, with the ability to communicate subject area within multi-disciplined project team.
•    Qualified PPS (Practical Problem Solving) facilitator and / or Lean Practitioner,
•    Conversant with Continuous Improvement (CI) Fundamentals and use of lean principles and methodologies,
•    Experience in application and implementation of continuous improvement principles, process, and methodologies.
 

Main Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities
People: 
•    Liaise with asset the operations organisation to ensure their sufficient and timely and input to commissioning and start up activities.
•    Role modelling the continuous improvement ways of working and problem solving.
Process: 
•    Execute commissioning and start-up activities of assigned projects, in accordance with HSE, AI-PSM requirements, Company standards and project schedule.
•    Retrieve and verifies project specific documents, drawings, vendor manuals required for installation, inspection, and preparation for start-up of mechanical rotating equipment.
•    Review and comment lube oil flushing, belt tensioning, mechanical test run procedures etc.
•    Support and participate to multi-disciplinary activities as part of site execution and completion process including troubleshooting of equipment, units and facility operation, RCA and problem solving.
•    Identifies hazards and associated risk related to pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities and participate in risk assessment(s). 
•    Supports construction team for rotating equipment levelling activities and grouting activities.
•    Supports rotating equipment vendor in inspection and recording of the rotating equipment tolerances for bearings, seals, gear boxes, fluid coupling, cleanliness, etc. and confirms compliance with PDO Specifications and standards,
•    Inspects and accepts for lube oil, gear box, fluid coupling, seal fluid tanks, seal gas systems for cleanliness and gives clearance for lube oil, seal fluid filling for flushing / blowing.
•    Conduct inspections and accepts lube oil and seal system flushing cleanliness, e.g., by inspecting the flushing screen mesh and verifying the lube oil particle analysis, etc.
•    Inspects and verifies steam blowing targets for steam turbines.
•     Supervise and inspects in coordination with Commissioning Engineer the chemical cleaning for lube oil system, compressors piping system, etc. by inspecting all the piping and equipment are meeting the cleanliness criteria. 
•    Actively pursue simplification, standardisation and replication of associated methods and deliverables particularly in relation to ‘typical’ and ‘routine’ project scopes.
•    Use of standard, predictable and interconnected routines (Leader Standard Work) to ensure value adding time spent in the right place at the right time, to provide assurance that the critical process activities are operating normally and being action oriented to improve performance. 
•    Contribute to team effort towards attaining and sustaining Established stage in Continuous Improvement (CI) maturity with the use of and coaching staff on Continuous Improvement (CI) I Fundamentals as part of day-to-day work
Technology (systems and tools)
•    Use of alignment tools & equipment, conventional or laser based.
•    Use repository for project commissioning documentation in document management software.
•    Use Completions and Certification Management System (CCMS) and ensure timely and accurate data entry.
•    Contribute to PDO Commissioning information repositories.
