Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

To create a healthy work environment, and to develop, implement  and provide comprehensive Occupational hygiene services across  PDO, and to support PDO contractors in the implementation of the same. The Job also include development of Occupational hygeiene strategies, plans, procedures and guidelines to ensure the protection of PDO and contractors’ employees from ill health caused by all different types of health hazards arising in the workplace.  Comprehensive Occupational hygiene encompasses conduction of work environment surveys, the evaluation/assessment of  workplace health hazards and the provision of expert advice and guidance to PDO employees and line management on Occupational health issues. The job also entails provision of on job training, couching and mentoring  of the new industrial hygiene trainees and to provide an advisory service to line management and PDO employees regarding camp hygiene and food safety management system.

Education & Experience

•    Master of Occupational Hygiene, BOHS membership or equivalent    
•    Prior work experience in industrial hygiene for more than 7 years, preferably in the oil and gas industry,E&P operations.
•    Skilled or at least knowledge level in Health risk assessment( HRA) and Human Factors Engineering( HFE)
•    Skilled in chemicals management and Radiation management especially NORM
•    Experienced and skilled in chemicals and physical hazards sampling and monitoring surveys and the interpretation of results..

Main Responsibilities

•    Effective management and  implementation of occupational hygiene programs throughout  PDO operations.

•    Integration of the occupational health programs into the HSE Management System.

•    Implementation of PDO Health Management Standards and to undertake Health Risk Assessment for new projects and existing job types (activities) and review human factors engineering for new projects.
 
•    Radiation management particularly  the management of NORM.


•    Provision of expert occupational hygiene guidance and support to field HSE Advisors and PDO contractors.

•    Lead or participate  in HSE incident investigations and HSE  audits.

•    Document author or custodian  for industrial hygiene specifications in the company.

•    Anticipate and recognize health risks and conduct workplace environmental monitoring/surveys for work place health hazards that may affect the health, comfort or productivity of staff and develop and implement control measures to control health hazards and keep Occupational  exposures within Occupational exposure limits.
•    Implement the Occupational Health business plans ensuring that it minimizes exposure to Health hazards.
•    Ensure proper chemicals management system and review of MSDS and provide advice to line management and PDO employees on safe handeling and storage of chemicals.
•    Monitor PDO contractors’ Occupational health programmes and performances.
•    Participate in Human factors Enginnering in new projects meetings to ensure that employees can carry out their work safely and equipments are ergonomically  designed , operated and maintained throughout life so as to minimize ill health.
•    Ensure all staff have access to health services and offer  advice on health hazards and protection.
•    Conduct workplace assessments and sampling to identify, quantify and control health hazards (chemical, physical,  biological, ergonomics and psychological etc.).  Analyse and interpret results of the collected samples and data. 
•    Identify personal protective equipment (PPE) requirement and advice contract manager, HSE manager and purchase department in procurement of suitable PPE.
•    Conduct work stations assessments and provide advice to staff regarding their workstations set up , correct posture and manual handling.
•    Keep updated with emerging developments and health issues that may be potential risks to employees and the buisness, and  pre-empt  remedial actions or awareness programs.
•    Conduct and oragnise HRA and other industrial hygiene trainings for company employees and other HSE professionals.
•    Organise and conduct occupational health road shows, health promotion activities, health awareness talks to PDO staff and line management in all PDO concession areas.
•    Paticipate in HSE inspections and audits.
•    Train, couch and mentor the new Industrial hygiene trainees and the new industrial hygienist.
