OB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE Lead, Occupational Hygienist

LOCATION Sur

ROLE PURPOSE

Plan, manage, and conduct all the Health Risk Assessment (HRA) processes and identify, evaluate, and monitor employee exposures to physical, biological, chemical, and ergonomic health hazards and manage Human Factor engineering (HFE) for projects to ensure the maintenance of health and well-being of OLNG employees in line with established policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Applicable only in the case of Direct Reportees

•Drive seamless communication between the leadership and the team members to ensure smooth flow of information and timely decision making 

•Build a strong team culture by fostering a positive and productive work environment and ensuring that the team members are motivated and collaborative

•Conduct regular checks in with team members for alignment on expectations, assessing performance against set goals, and provide feedback for continuous improvement 

•Guide and support team members on all operational and functional matters and resolve any doubts/concerns/grievances they have

•Devote time to train team members on new ways of working, developing new competencies, and upskilling to drive performance and productivity

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of Health Programs:

•Develop and execute health programs for the following: radiation management, occupational illness, ergonomics, respiratory protection, hazard communication, acute toxic substances, benzene, asbestos, man-made mineral fibres, lead, hexavalent chromium, legionella, hearing loss, chemical protective clothing, ventilation, indoor air quality and other relevant elements

•Ensure that the health programs are in compliance with the company HSSE & SP management systems, (e.g., control framework health manuals), ISO and OHSAS standards

•Implement Oman LNG worker welfare program and policies in accordance with OLNG standards and applicable regulations

•Conduct health awareness program for workforce and other programs to support their mental and emotional wellbeing

Health Risk Assessment (HRA):

•Lead the Health Risk Assessment (HRA) process covering all business locations and processes in line with established policies and procedures

•Update existing Health Risk Assessments (HRA) process with new hazards and provide suitable recommendations about relevant changes such as toxicity classifications, exposure limits or new insights about health effects

•Provide guidance and inputs to all departments in conducting Health Risk Assessments

•Develop and implement an annual HRA field verification plan to validate hazards and assure effectiveness of hazard controls and recovery measures

Human Factor Engineering (HRA):

•Implement Control Framework and legal requirements for HFE for projects

•Apply the outcome of HFE and develop an HFE Strategy for a project

•Review and approve all HFE studies and reports for projects

•Manage HFE to ALARP

Workplace Hazard Assessments:

•Identify and assess risks to health arising from many different factors, such as chemicals, noise, biological, ergonomics and poor lighting or ventilation

•Conduct workplace surveys, incident investigations and audits to assess the health hazards in the workplace

•Report and recommend on health risks that may affect worker productivity aiming to improve their wellbeing and avoid absenteeism

•Facilitate organizational change in terms of designing relevant facilities and finding cost-effective solutions for risks to health in workplaces of all types

Exposure Monitoring:

•Prepare an annual exposure monitoring plan and perform monitoring for applicable areas of OLNG

•Sample and measure levels of exposure accurately, often through precise use of specialist equipment

Health Audits:

•Inspect and audit company canteens to maintain food hygiene standards by ensuring appropriate implementation hazard analysis for all company canteens

•Ensure timely and effective implementation of corrective actions for all the health audit findings related to occupational hygienist area

•Prepare annual plan for the inspection of contractor camps and welfare and ensure compliance to OPAL Standards

Miscellaneous Tasks:

•Collaborate with the medical staff on ‘Fitness to Work’ and medical surveillance, based on HRAs and exposure monitoring results

•Develop worker welfare programs for staff and business partners

KEY CHALLENGES

•Strike a balance between maintaining operational efficiency and implementing measures to control occupational exposures

•Overcome resistance or reluctance from employees to adopt control measures

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND WORKING CONDITIONS

EDUCATION

•Diploma in Occupational Hygiene or ABIH certification in comprehensive practice or equivalent (REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE

 •8 years (REQUIRED)
