About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

  • To take control of the operation on site in case of an emergency
  • To coach young graduates in the field and to act as mentor during their Hands-on Training,
  • Ensuring compliance with GU-859 – Wells Graduate Training Guideline.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor or Master of Engineering/ Science degree in an Engineering or Geosciences discipline or equivalent.
  •  Shell Round 2 Certificate - Preferable 
  •  A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a minimum of 4 years as Wells Site Supervisor and another 4 years as office-based Well Operations Engineer.

Main Responsibilities

  • In case of an emergency, and in close collaboration with the relevant Operations Team
  • Leader, take control of the operation on site.
  • Support the development of young graduates towards full autonomy within 3 years by coaching them during their Hands-on Training (HOT) period in the field, ensuring the graduates develop an understanding of all aspects of Personal Safety, Wells Process.
  • Safety and Environmental Protection as well as of the Well Delivery Process as outlined in CP-122-HSE Manual and CP-178, Well Delivery CoP and subordinate standards.
  • Coach all people working on assigned work units so that they develop a habit of identifying, mitigating and controlling all risks associated with the operation.
  • Coach less experienced DSVs and HSVs on the job to deepen their understanding of all aspects of the operation to help them improve the way they fulfil their accountabilities.
  • Intervene in the operation if a hazardous situation is developing and the person in charge on site seems not sufficiently mature to handle the situation. Subsequently coach the individual, addressing the specific competency gaps uncovered by the situation and suggest further actions for closing the competency gaps.
  • From within the field and through regular face-to-face engagements ensure compliance of the young graduates with GU-859 – Wells Graduate Training Guideline ensuring that tasks are signed off in a timely manner.
  •  In close collaboration with the WE Graduate Development Coordinator, the SWE Capability Development and the Wells Skill Pool Manager ensure that the training program is continuously improved to meet business requirements and that training plans are adapted to meet the specific needs of individuals.
  •  Provide input towards the identification of young talent.
  •  Drive young graduates to use the Well Engineering KIM framework and contribute towards making UWD a learning organization.
  • Drive young graduates to exhibit Lean behaviors, in compliance with PDO’s corporate.
  • Lean deployment Model, in all activities performed within their daily business to realize continuous sustained performance improvement.
  • Live the PDO Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect for People), exhibit the PDO behaviors (Engagement, Respect, Collaboration and Performance) and act as role model for colleagues and subordinates.
