Purpose of the Job

To ensure smooth start-up of work units that are new to join PDO’s fleet by assisting PDO and contractor staff in activities ranging from equipment specification, design, selection, quality assurance and operational readiness assurance (People, Equipment and Systems) and auditing. To help providing in-depth expertise on all matters related to rig/ hoist/ utility equipment as well as start-up and commissioning.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Science Engineering, Geosciences or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with a minimum of 2 years as Wells supervisor.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervise all matters relating to new drilling rigs / workover hoists or upgrades of existing rigs / workover hoists, selection of rig/ hoist equipment including but not limited to well control equipment, mud pumps, mud processing equipment like shale shakers / mud cleaners/ desanders/ desilters, top drives, power catwalks, iron roughnecks, derrick and work floor pipe handling systems, automated pipe bins based on their operative and safety functions, maintenance and asset management.
  • Participate in the conceptual and detailed design review of new drilling rigs, hoists and other utilities, to play an active part in their procurement and fabrication. Review drawings and documentation to ensure the equipment and systems are safe and meet applicable standards; review available commissioning and start-up procedures with a view to improving and enhancing them.
  • Participate in review Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures and to attend FAT of selected safety critical and operationally critical equipment if required.
  • Participate in review Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) , Failure Mode Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Hazard & Operability studies (HAZOP) submitted by the vendor/ contractor and to liaise with the relevant contractor Project Manager on technical issues related to commissioning and the acceptance of the work unit.
  • Review, verify and approve pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures.
  • Work closely with other PDO teams, Contractors and vendors to ensure timely start-up of assigned work units post contract award.
  • Review the final acceptance documentation for assigned drilling, hoists and other work units and assist with documenting and resolving punch list items.
  • Verify and approve pre-commissioning, commissioning and acceptance tasks for assigned drilling and utility units, assess contractors’ start-up readiness and follow up on gap closure plans, providing HSE and technical expertise as required.
  • Lead audits of work units to support PDOs assurance processes if required.
  • Support contract owner and Well Operations Manager in developing and executing strategies for acquiring and operationalizing rigs, hoists and other work units. Assist in developing associated start-up plans.
  • Participate in the inspection and ranking of short-listed work units, specifically assist with the assessment of contractor’s technical capability, tender evaluation, gap analysis on technical and HSE standards, evaluation of contractor’s HSE Case and related bridging documentation, evaluation of crew competency and crew training plans in start-up audits. Assist in the implementation of gap closure plans.
  • Participate in incident investigations related to equipment failures if required.
