Job purpose

 

Provides thoughts, consultancy and drive effective end-to-end processes / solutions to Salalah Cluster in Lean initiatives, associated projects, Lean Methods, and Lean / CI Competencies, acting as Subject Matter Expert to Lead and drive lean changes and to pro-actively support the frontline through this change journey, as well as, actively work in partnership with the multiple functions to further develop and implement the Business Improvement Plans of their assigned areas and their related processes and their team and individual goals by: (1) Understand and coach  Salalah Cluster Frontline Execution in practice and theory; (2) Handle the duality of in-depth technical engagement coupled with professional Lean/Continuous Improvement (CI) implementation advice, (3) Lead  Organizational Development activities that require the incumbent to build an effective liaison with Salalah Cluster Leaders and Learning professionals and carry out selected activities; In order to activate and enable the shop floor to improve their daily work processes, eliminate waste and unnecessary Salalah Cluster’s  bureaucracy.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

General

  • Implementation of team huddle meetings, facilitation of workshops and away days, coaching on servant leadership behaviours such as go-see, problem solving, etc.,
  • Supporting the generation of lead vs lag measures, visual boards, and related tracking,
  • Coaching on collaboration between teams and exchange of best practices and enable the implementation of quality work processes.
  • Get the flywheel of (small) continuous improvements going by helping frontline staff,
  • Technical support and departmental process focal points to “find each other” in identifying bottlenecks and resolving them together.
  • Reap more and greater business benefits treating Lean/CI as part of the transformational journey whilst becoming the new natural way of working at all levels in Salalah Cluster.
  • Support all Salalah Cluster business activities across all assets and services and thereby provides the opportunity to gain a comprehensive insight into the diverse operations of the organization.
  • Collaborate CI activities deployment within CI community across OQ assets
  • Develop CI Metrics and indicators (KPIs), maintain progress, and develop visual reporting.

 

Lean Projects:

  • Hold active engagement with the frontline to drive continuous and sustainable improvement while eliminating waste and bureaucracy.
  • Manage asset level and (larger) cross-functional improvement projects.
  • Provides robust consultancy and solutions to Salalah Cluster in Lean initiatives, associated projects, Lean Methods, and Lean / CI Competencies, acting as key player to drive lean changes and proactively support the frontline journey.
  • Understand and coach Salalah Cluster Frontline teams in practice and theory.
  • Handle the duality of in-depth technical engagement coupled with professional Lean/Continuous Improvement (CI) implementation advice, Lead Organizational Development activities that require the incumbent to build an effective liaison with Salalah Cluster Leaders and Learning professionals and carry out selected activities.
  • Lead the integration of Lean/CI in the work process governance teams to drive mid- and long-term improvements in work process efficiency and work process standardization.
  • Develop the Lean/CI Improvement agenda for Salalah Cluster.

 

Methods:

  • Owner of LEAN methodology, standards, and applications for Salalah Cluster.
  • Actively and continuously improve CI Training material and procedures.
  • Plan, implement and control Lean/CI methodologies, particularly visual management, waste elimination, process standardization and structured problem solving to deliver an improved way of working on site between the many interfaces,
  • Promote Lean/CI and the cultural transformation, sustainability based on the 4 Disciplines of Execution (4DX) key, namely:
    • Setting Wildly Important Goals (Hoshin),
    • Pro-actively acting on Leading Performance Measures,
    • Driving engagement and involvement through Visual Performance Boards, and
    • Accountability and progress through a weekly cadence.
  • Provides the leadership teams across Salalah Cluster with Lean/CI strategic advice and supports the assets and functions in their business improvement initiatives, on the tools & methodology.
  • Design and support on creation of Lean KPIs, metrics & visualization. 
  • Support innovation & process re-design thinking by using the Lean Six Sigma methodology to step change improvement in margin, cost, energy efficiency, organizational capability.
  • Advise in the use of the methodology while applying Continuous Improvement to specific business needs with the specific aim to deliver improvement projects on schedule, with benefits realized and competencies and culture embedded at all levels of the business.

 

Coaching:

  • Guide the organization towards a Lean/CI culture.
  • Acquire organizational competences in Lean/CI such as the delivery of Lean Practitioner training, Lean Six Sigma Green Belts and Black Belt Certification.
  • Coach associates at various levels to the required competence (Coach the Coach, Leader Standard Work) and mentor Green/Black belts toward their successful projects close and certification.
  • Building internal capability through training and leadership & associate coaching.
  • Provides the leadership teams across Salalah Cluster with Lean/CI strategic advice and supports the assets and functions in their business improvement initiatives on the behavioral & organizational culture.
  • Keep track of industry best practices, tools for Lean in support of Business Improvement
  • Facilitate Focused Results Delivery in virtual teams comprising members from diverse streams

Notable Working Conditions:

  • Field Operations and office environment, Moderate to intensive computer screen use.
  • Overnight travel to all operational sites in Oman.
  • The permanent work location is subject to personal circumstances.

Education requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications for this position are a University Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Accredited in Lean Six Sigma and seasoned in end-to-end Process Management, Change Management, Risk Management and Organizational Effectiveness.
  • Accreditation as a Lean Practitioner, ongoing or completed is a prerequisite.
  • Accreditation as a Lean Black Belt and Kaizen facilitator experience would be a significant plus but can also be developed in-role.
  • The role requires necessary safety training and site qualifications (e.g., access card) need to be obtained/kept current, including personal PPE.

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) Arabic - Native (desirable)

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Working experience in a similar role along focused on Lean methodology & Coach Initiatives in the Oil & Energy vertically integrated industry.
  • Production Operations or Maintenance parented staff at TL levels with a proven affinity to Lean/CI are preferred for this role. Other skill pools are invited to apply, e.g., Commercial, People (HR)
  • First-hand experience is gained on the challenges, issues and risks that exist throughout the business coupled with exposure to the senior leaders who are managing them. This will allow the incumbent to develop their personal strengths and related business knowledge and provides the professional toolkit to grow into new roles.
  • Knowledge of internationally recognized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in a process plant.
  • Experience in drafting and improving SOP/ training manuals.
  • Experience of developing and implementing organizational development initiatives 
  • Practical Lean experience in applying process improvements and Lean tools such as value stream mapping; 5S; identifying and eliminating waste.

Soft:

  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, communication, presentation, coaching, influencing and project management skills.

 

 

Technical:

  • Computer Literacy including MS Office
  • Minitab
  • Customer-focused in defining quality and establishing priorities, underpinned by curiosity (dare) and affinity to numerical data.
  • Sound understanding of process management, especially of the Maintenance and Operations processes.
  • Change agent with strong credibility, hence influence in the organization. Establishing effective partnerships in the assigned areas
  • Strong facilitation skills aiming at teamwork and team building.
  • Resilient when facing resistance to change.
