About the Company

Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.

Purpose of the Job

The Exploration Geoscience Advisor is one of three Advisors in Exploration who jointly provide Technical Assurance (TA2 Exploration Geosciences) for projects carried out in Exploration in the framework of the PDO X-PMF. The Exploration Geoscience Advisors are expected to improve the technical capability amongst SG 6-3 Explorers through coaching and through promotion and communication of global best practices, embedment of consistent workflows, and ensure effective technology application. In addition, the Exploration Geoscience Advisors demonstrate visible excellence in HSSE leadership, ensuring adherence to all subsurface process safety in evaluations, and in maintaining the compliance of key documentation of the XPMF framework.

Education & Experience

Proven track record in Exploration Geosciences, Seismic Interpretation and Depth Conversion is essential. The position requires strong technical and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate technical geological and geophysical aspects to Exploration Geoscientists. Specifically:
• Degree or Postgraduate training (MSc./PhD) in Geology/Geophysics or related science with minimum of 12 years of hands-on Exploration/Geophysics experience in a range of global basins, Exploration plays, reservoirs (clastics and carbonates) and hydrocarbon types.
• Deep knowledge of nDI, ArcGis, GEOX and preferably Petrel and the Landmark DecisionSpace suite of products.
• Strong Geological and Geophysical skills. Ability to incorporate all geological data into an integrated view of the critical play characteristics
• Well-rounded Geoscientist experienced in all aspects of play-based evaluation concepts and methods, with ability to rapidly analyze and identify critical success factors, then focus on these to efficiently develop the opportunity.
• Prior hands-on knowledge and experience on Oman geology is not a pre-requisite but is an advantage.
• Good understanding of the EP business.
• Intellectual integrity and honesty in exploration evaluation are key elements of this position.
• Strong in networking and stakeholder management, preferably through experiences in a Shell Non-Operated Venture.
• Self-starter with energy and initiative.
• Ability to coach (national) staff proactively and find the right balance between assurance and coaching. Culturally sensitive.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Main Responsibilities

The Exploration Geoscience Advisor will:
• Provide Technical Assurance for seismic interpretation and depth conversion, both at regional scale and prospect scale, ensuring proper trap definition
• Provide technical assurance of volumes assessment and risking for opportunities pre- and post-drill
• Provide Technical Assurance for Well Picks and Geohazards
• Provide Technical assurance for pore pressure prediction
• Coach local staff in prospect maturation
• Maintain templates to document evaluation projects (DCAT, PAT, PPPG) and Well Picks as per the XPMF process.
• Ensure evaluation projects capture all uncertainties utilising new workflows, tools and
• Participate in PDO X-PMF assists and reviews.
• Support interpretation inputs for PreSDM projects
• Support and drive play-based evaluation and assurance of final play maps and recipes
• Custodian of the GEOX runs and indirectly support the portfolio analyst to ensure accurate reporting of the ARPR.
• Support the Geophysical advisor in ensuring the maintenance of corporate horizons
• Advise on reprocessing and quantitative Interpretation projects where support is needed.
• Ensure communication between the Evaluation Teams and the Geophysics Teams
• Maintain a global network of peers in Shell, ensuring latest workflows and technologies in Exploration Evaluation are shared, synergies are identified, and opportunities for lateral learning are fostered.
• Liaise with contractors and service providers to ensure new relevant technologies are identified, tested, and, if merited, implemented in PDO.
• Assist in training, e.g. GDP courses (PDO equivalent of SGP courses)
All activities will be executed within the PDO HSSE framework with no impact to people or the environment.
