Job purpose  

Leads development of discovered hydrocarbon resources at OQEP operated Assets, under VP Operated scope, acting as  owner of well planning and delivery, reservoir modelling (static and/ or dynamic), standards, by (1) Lead the subsurface discipline for ABB / BISAT (geology, petrophysics, Reservoir, prod engineering) in interaction with stakeholder management, (2) Hands-on component as either the field geologist or reservoir engineering combined with technical leadership and direct supervisory responsibility, and (3)  Be involved with partner/stakeholder (internal and external) for all subsurface related matters; in order to support the performance of the assigned fields. 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives. 

Main tasks and responsibilities  

  • Leads development of discovered hydrocarbon resources for ABB / BISAT or any future assets. (Geology, petrophysics, Reservoir, prod engineering) in interaction with stakeholder management,  
  • Hands-on component as either the field geologist or reservoir engineering combined with technical leadership and direct supervisory responsibility,  
  • Be involved with partner/stakeholder (internal and external) for all subsurface related matters; in order to support the performance of the assigned fields 
  • Ensure compliance with OQEP policies and procedures and compliance to best industry practices. 
  • Provides input to solve operational and development related challenges, identify and mitigate subsurface risks during life of field 
  • Lead the definition, design and execution of data acquisition programs, and, if required, bringing office or onsite support for any relevant operations (e.g. geosteering wells, preliminary quick-look analysis, post well clean up analysis). 
  • Providing QA/QC of all subsurface work. 
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date reservoir performance models 
  • Acting as a technical leader on projects, coordinating cross-discipline activities. 
  • Responsible for Joint Ventures subsurface coordination 
  • Own subsurface work programme and provide input to budget 
  • Lead reserves updates and submissions as well as business plans as part of corporate (subsurface) process 

Key interactions 

Internal: OQEP, OQ Group/OIA as required  

External: Ministry of Energy and Mineral (MEM), Contractors, Vendors & Suppliers 

Notable Working Conditions. Field Operations and office environment, Moderate to intensive computer screen use. 

Education requirements 

  • Bachelor’s in petroleum engineering, or related.  

Language requirements   

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)

Arabic - Native (desirable) 

Background and experience 

Competencies and skills 

  • 13+ years of experience in relevant position
  • 5 years’ experience in leadership role.  
  •  Well-rounded professional with strong background in petroleum engineering or G&G, adaptable and motivated general management strategist who relishes challenges.  
  • Hands on experience at managerial level in all Oil & Gas disciplines including, but not limited to; civil, piping, tankage, structural, pumps and drivers, electrical, instrument and control systems  
  • Have both onshore and offshore construction experience  
  • Experienced in resource control, contract management and general management 
  • Geology/petroleum engineering / geophysics relevant experience. 
  • Advanced knowledge of drilling practices and well logging operations. 
  • Strong geological and/ or reservoir engineer development background is beneficial. 
  • Extensive experience in operated ventures
