Job purpose

Provides technical expertise pertaining to maintenance Electrical & Instrument Equipment acting as a focal point of contact for instruments, through executing routine maintenance, installation and repairs to a variety of Instruments (electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical) in designated locations, both on site and in the Instrument Workshop; in order to minimize downtime, cost effective and ensure the reliability, availability of mechanical rotating equipment

 

The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

Operations:

 

  • Works as part of a multi skilled team assisting with operations tasks and daily checks
  • Prepare and submit daily reports
  • Assist with flaring and pigging operations
  • Assist with EPTW and worksite preparation, isolations, flushing, purging.
  • Assist with platform restart after trip.

 

Instrument:

  • Collects data from field and reports them through proper communication channels.
  • Receives assignments or work orders from Instrument Supervisors and coordinates activities with other technicians and operators for solving problems on instrumentation equipment.
  • Dismantle and re-assemble pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric-actuated valves and replaces or repairs parts.
  • Repair and test control valves, using tools such as voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter etc. and referring to wiring diagrams as necessary.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot computerized process control equipment such as Remote Terminal Units (RTU) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), using tools such as HART Communicators.
  • Install, maintain, repair and calibrate various detectors, alarms analysers and sensors for flow, level, pressure, temperature and pH.
  • Assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of complex turbomachinery control systems such as Woodward and CCC.

 

Electrical:

  • Receives assignments or work orders from electrical supervisors and coordinates   activities with other technicians and operators for solving problems on electrical motors and lighting system.
  • Install and maintain Electrical installations in Refinery units including process, utility, generation, workshop, offices, Laboratory etc.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs, trouble shooting and performs scheduled preventive maintenance repairs
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters
  • Testing and certification of portable electrical tools
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Monitoring of Electrical parameters of Electrical Power systems and installations and analyses them.
  • Upgrades existing systems in accordance with revised blueprints, MOCs, work orders and verbal instructions.
  • Ensures that over-current and under-voltage protection devices, as well as circuit breakers, fuses etc. are correctly installed.
  • Diagnoses, repairs and tests wiring or circuit faults using tools such as voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter etc. and referring to wiring diagrams as necessary.
  • Checks electrical motors, reversible winches, generators, switchgears, air compressors etc. and ensures that all connection points and cables are capable of withstanding designated capacity voltages.
  • Dismantles and re-assembles electrical equipment and replaces or repairs parts (such as start switches, controls, elements, wiring).
  • Tests equipment’s insulation, tests coil windings, checks motors for electrical integrity.
  • Performs Preventive Maintenance, Corrective maintenance and Annual Maintenance (Turnaround) for, breakers, battery chargers, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) units, protection relays, normal & emergency lighting system, Motor Control Centre (MCC) panels, cathodic protection system, elevators, earthling system etc.
  • Support in Project activities
  • Achieves RPE / AEP status for block 8

Education requirements

Minimum Qualifications for this position is Diploma in Electrical and Instrument or similar

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required), Arabic - Native (desirable)

  • Knowledge of refinery and petrochemical plant operations.

 

Instrument:

  • Experience in workshop testing and repair techniques.

Electrical:

  • Experience in workshop testing and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of High Voltage and Low Voltage equipment.
  • Knowledge about Hazardous Area Classification and the equipment used in such areas.
  • Experienced with the troubleshooting of the over-current and under-voltage protection devices, as well as circuit breakers, and different type of fuses.
  • Testing of Portable electrical equipment.
