Job purpose:

 

The Vice President, Sustainability & Communication, will lead OQ Group's sustainability, communication, and brand strategy in alignment with corporate values and national objectives. The role provides thought leadership and operational direction, overseeing the implementation of sustainability frameworks across OQ’s operations, while leading for embedding sustainability practices into business processes. Additionally, the role leads the strategic priorities of corporate communication and branding, fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability.

This role will ensure that OQ’s sustainability initiatives align with both corporate and global sustainability standards, while also driving engagement across group’s companies, enhancing the company’s brand identity, and developing robust partnerships with external stakeholders for effective Corporate Social Investment program.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Sustainability Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of OQ Group’s Sustainability Strategy, focusing on integrating sustainability into business operations and long-term strategic goals.
  • Act as center of excellence for all sustainability initiatives across value chain and asset owners, ensuring alignment with both OQ’s corporate strategy and global best practices.
  • Build sustainability frameworks, performance metrics, and dashboards to monitor and evaluate OQ Group’s sustainability efforts.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in sustainability practices, ensuring alignment with the company’s commitment to reducing environmental impact and supporting the energy transition.
  • Highlight and mitigate risks related to achieving sustainability targets, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to address challenges.
  • Lead high-impact sustainability partnerships with key stakeholders such as governments, NGOs, and community leaders to enhance OQ’s sustainability credentials.
  • Build strategic leadership and capabilities within the Growth function and ensure readiness of effective succession.

 

Corporate Social Investment (CSI) and External Relations

  • Oversee the development of the CSI strategy to ensure alignment with OQ’s long-term business objectives and sustainability goals.
  • Ensure that social investment outcomes are measured and reported effectively, highlighting the societal benefits and enhancing OQ’s corporate reputation.
  • Act as the primary interface for sustainability-related matters with the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) and other government stakeholders.
  • Lead the engagement strategy for external relations, ensuring that OQ’s sustainability agenda is effectively communicated to stakeholders.

 

Communication and Branding

  • Lead the development of OQ Group’s brand and communication strategy, ensuring consistent messaging across all corporate platforms, with a focus on sustainability and innovation.
  • Define and implement a comprehensive corporate communication plan that includes digital, social media, and PR strategies aimed at strengthening OQ’s leadership in energy sector and sustainability.
  • Guide the development of brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across OQ and its subsidiaries, highlighting what differentiates OQ from competitors in global markets.
  • Ensure employee engagement in embodying the brand values, creating internal alignment around sustainability and corporate goals.
  • Manage and oversee all external communications, ensuring clear and impactful messaging to stakeholders, customers, and the public.

 

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee strategically for the management of OQ’s head office facilities, ensuring sustainability principles are integrated into operations.
  • Guide the development of support services framework and operations for effective delivery within the Corporate Office.

Internal: Functions and departments  / other Businesses and Assets (Upstream, Gas Network, Downstream & Commercial, Finance, PTC, Legal, Assurance, Internal Committees

External: OIA, Consultants / Auditors / Government / Ministries / Vendors

Notable Working Conditions: Primarily office-based;

Education requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) preferably in /Engineering/Sustainability/Communication or related field.
  • Postgraduate degree in Business Management  / Sustainability / Communication

Language requirements 

English – Fluent (Required)  /Arabic – Fluent (Preferred)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • +16 years of relevant experience, with at least 5 years leading sustainability, communication and social investment functions in global energy organisation or vertically integrated companies.
  • Proven experience in sustainability strategy development and execution, corporate social investment, and external stakeholder management.
  • Strong ability to influence and drive change across different assets.
  • Experience working in managing facilities management and support services of corporate functions.
  • Expertise in sustainability strategy development, corporate social investment, stakeholder engagement, and communication.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills, particularly related to sustainability metrics.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on fostering innovation and continuous improvement in sustainability.
  • Experience with crisis communication and reputation management.
