ROLE PURPOSE:
Provides technical expertise pertaining to maintain and repair metal structures across Orpic sites and all related operations under Team Leader Central Workshop. The job holder performs preventive / corrective maintenance and repairs static equipment. Works on a wide range of welding jobs, using various metals of different thicknesses, Joining curved pieces of metal sheets, structural and 6G pipe welding. Services scope as Technical Service provider of welding maintenance services for the execution of minor projects, modifications in accordance with the technical standards set by TSD to maintain the assets; by (1) Execution of repetitive welding tasks including TIG (tungsten inert gas) process and SMAW- Shielded Metal Arc Welding process.(2) Fabricate and assemble metal structures, equipment and measuring tools. (3) Produce metal products according to customer specifications, (4) Know plasma welding process, (5) Read and interpret diagrams, sketches and blueprints to determine operations, required materials and timeframes for projects, and (6) Operates and maintain welding equipment; in order to ensure the safe completion of the assigned duty of the equipment under hazardous conditions, in Orpic Plants within day to day maintenance activities, as well as, during plants’ turnaround and overhauls and support the operation of the equipment.
Welder position will act in accordance with Orpic values & strategies, policies, guidelines, technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives and Ethics standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & DELIVERABLES:
Deliverables
Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements.
Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by engineer.
Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line,
Maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions: 6G Position.
Welder is with proven track record in performing welding of CS, Cast Iron, Cupper Nickel, Inconel, Stellite 6, All grades of SS, Hastelloy, Duplex & Super Duplex steels, Monel, Different Alloys (P5,P9,P10,P11,etc..).
Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
Positions and clamps workpieces together or assemble them in jig or fixtures.
Selects torch, torch tip, filler ford and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of material.
Tacks assemblies together.
Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
Cleans or de-greases parts.
Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding.
Be able to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUAL’S:
Knowledge Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications for this position is Industrial Training Institute (ITI)- Certification course in Welding Technology.
Certified Welder or Certified Welding Fabricator credentials.
Certified as 6G position welder
Minimum 5 years hands on experience in welding all types of welding process as above with an excellent track record
Experience with Carbon steel, stainless steel, and different Alloys (P5,P9,P10,P11,…etc)
Experience with SMAW and TIG welding processes
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Be able to read and interpret blueprints.
Must be able to read a tape measure.
Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents.
Ability to use weld fillet gauges to ensure proper weld size and interpret tolerances.
Must be able to identify and measure material.
Reading and understanding the equipment manuals
Welding metal structures, TIG welding (tungsten inert gas) and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding process)
Strength and skills to manage welding equipment.
Welder shall independently repair all types of welding machines
